I am a dental assistant educated in another province/country. What is required in order for me practise as a certified dental assistant in BC?


For registration and licensing requirements please contact the College of Dental Surgeons of BC (CDSBC) by phone at 604.736.3621, toll free 1.800.663.9169 or email postmaster@cdsbc.org. The CDSBC is the licensing body for certified dental assistants in British Columbia.


To practise in BC, a CDA must register with the College of Dental Surgeons (CDSBC).  Why do CDAs also join Certified Dental Assistants of BC (CDABC)?

The College registers CDAs and licenses dentists. Who is looking out solely for the interests of BC CDAs? Your professional association is! The CDABC is recognized as the one organization that represents the interests of the profession in British Columbia. The association provides leadership, unity, advocacy for the profession, and is the clearinghouse for information about the profession. It's your voice, your profession, and your association. I am a dental assistant educated in another province/country. I contacted the College about being licenced in BC, and I was informed that I need to take a specific course to become licenced. Where can I take that course?

Where will I find information about working as a dental assistant in another province?

You should contact the dental assisting regulatory body in that province for their registration requirements. The provincial contacts can be found on the links page.


Where will I find information about working as a dental assistant in another country?

You should contact the embassy or consulate for that country to obtain contact information for their national dental or dental assisting regulatory body.
