Now in Effect: New Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team
We are proud to share with you that our new Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team were published in June and are now officially in effect as of June 30, 2025.
These unified standards apply to all oral health professionals regulated by the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP). They mark a significant step forward in supporting safe, competent and ethical care for patients across British Columbia.
One clear set of Professional Standards: Same expectations, simpler format
The new Professional Standards outline the minimum expectations for the conduct, competence and professionalism of oral health professionals regulated by BCCOHP in a single, streamlined document.

Transitioning from legacy practice resources
On June 30, the comprehensive Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team replaced a number of legacy college practice resources. For reference, a detailed inventory of the legacy documents removed from our website is being maintained here >>
Certain existing Practice Standards specific to each oral health profession remain in place to clarify additional requirements for high-risk aspects of oral health care. Please visit the “practice resources” page of the BCCOHP website to confirm current expectations.
