Join us for our April 5th teleseminar event, delivered by Kathy Boyd.
The presentation will include the importance of addressing smoking and tobacco use with dental patients, oral signs of tobacco use, and possible warning signs of oral cancers. Kathy will cover:
- The importance of incorporating smoking cessation into your patients care practice
- Oral symptoms of tobacco use
- Key recommendations for treating tobacco use and dependence
- E-cigarettes
- How to direct your patients to access free nicotine replacement therapies (patch or gum)
- How to talk to your patients about their smoking (without turning them off)
- Description of BC Lung Association's free, evidence-based "QuitNow" smoking cessation program
- How to refer your patients to "QuitNow".
This course is eligible for 1 live CE credit.
About the Speaker
Kathy Boyd has been a CDA in British Columbia for 29 years. Her CDA work experience includes general dentistry, orthodontics, and public health dental assisting. She holds a BC Provincial Instructor Diploma and has taught in three different certified dental assisting programs in BC. She has sat on the board to the CDABC and chaired several committees in that role. She has received both the President's Recognition Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the CDSBC for her work.
Kathy has been working for the BC Lung Association as a Health Promoter of QuitNow since 2010. As a Health Promoter her focus is not only to help smokers quit smoking, but also to inform other health professionals of the free services that QuitNow offers to double a smoker's chances of effectively quitting. Health professionals who refer their patients who smoke to QuitNow can be assured their patient's will receive personalized expert smoking cessation counseling anytime they need it.
